Meet the Team
Vicki McManus(Artistic Director/Head Instructor)
Back in 1998 Vicki was inspired to learn trapeze at The National Centre for Circus Arts in London after working with two trapeze artists on a dance project. She had just graduated with a BA Hon degree in performing arts specializing in dance and physical theatre and it wasn’t long before she was performing aerial professionally with many contemporary circus companies in theatres at festivals and corporate events across the UK and internationally.
Vicki’s’ experience has been vast ranging from performing with Kylie Minoque, Pericles at The Shakespeare Globe, La Clique at The Famous Spiegletent to Mary Poppins in the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony. Vicki has been teaching aerial skills for many years now, being inspired by the energy, enthusiasm and creativity of her students engaging in aerial circus.
Alex Poulter (Head Rigger)
Alex Poulter has been a professional performer for over two decades specialising in circus and aerial arts. His most recent credits are for choreography in a Sony Expedia Commercial (Beautifully thin) and the Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony, and as an aerial, circus and special skills consultant in the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
Shereen Hussain (Senior Aerial Instructor)
Shereen started practising ground based circus in 2008 and has performed for independent companies and at festivals, around Brighton and London. In the last year, Shereen has been working with circus and youth companies around Brighton, teaching ground -based circus and hula-hoop. She started training in rope, silks and trapeze with Zu Aerial Dance, in 2011, which led to assisting in beginner and intermediate classes taught at Sussex University. Shereen started with The Circus Project in 2013, assisting in aerial and teaching ground based circus. This has led to her taking on a teaching position in the adults and youth classes.
Naomi Denton (Administrator)
Naomi joined The Circus Project team in 2013 after being a student of The Circus Project since 2008. Eager to engage in the world of circus she began by assisting performances and productions and then was brought on board to utilise her skills of organisation to help behind the scenes.
As a charity we also have a strong board of trustees, made up of a cross-section of users – from parents of the youth circus to professional circus practitioners. The board works alongside our instructors and other team members to continually drive The Circus Project forward. Further information about our board can be found at The Charity Commission website.
